Halloween Dog

The other day I was changing sheets in the kids' rooms when Crew asked me what I was going to be for Halloween.  I told him I was going to be a really, really mean mom.  I'm sure he didn't think this was much of a stretch for me.

Then, he asked me what Indie was going to be.  We decided to try out a couple different costumes on our sweet doggie.

I thought she made quite a striking bride.  So pensive, and looks as if she is in deep thought about her future dog husband in this photograph.

Then, we decided to see what she might look like as a ghost dog with the dirty sheets.  Please don't call PETA on me.  She liked it, I swear.

Quite a scary ghost we thought.

See?  She loved it.  She loved it so much she couldn't stop licking Crew's ear.  Thank goodness we have her to clean out that pesky ear wax.

No More

...independance for Indie.  And, no more irresponsible pet-owner behavior.  **Warning** - a little graphic!

Indie has a habit of slipping outside unnoticed and with the fairly nice weather we've been having, it's been almost impossible to keep track of all three kids, plus Indie with the revolving front door.  She is always really good about coming home whenever we call her.  I think life as a dog would be so boring sometimes so I guess I figured a little exlporing couldn't hurt.  Until....

We got home last night and realized she wasn't in the back yard.  I opened up the front door and called her name.  She came limping (on 3 legs) up the front steps and we knew something was not right.  She winced at almost every touch and she was bleeding.  We couldn't tell from where until we lifted her up into the back of the car to take her to the vet and we saw that she had a bleeding and swollen um....vajayjay. The worst went through our minds.  I won't even go into it.  By the way, the picture above is of her belly...I can't bear to look at her other parts.

I happened to be hosting book club at our house last night so Jim took her to the vet to get her checked out.  He determined she had been hit by a car and had some pretty serious road rash and chewed up claws.  I was in a way relieved to hear this, as opposed to the alternative images that were going though my mind.

So, she'll be fine, but will need a week or so to recover.  She's just stayed in one place pretty much all day, barely moving.  In fact, I can tell it takes so much effort for her to even get into a sitting or laying position.  She's in a lot of pain and she has to wear the horrible cone until her wounds heal enough that she doesn't lick them to death.

Poor dog.  I feel really bad.

Sick Puppy Leads to Sledding with Nanny!

PhotobucketA few weeks ago we had some doggie drama in our house.  Indie was a sick puppy and had awful diarreah all over the carpets downstairs....YUCK!!!  This was on Friday.  I immediately started calling carpet cleaning companies and asking if they could come out right away.  Luckily, I found one that could come at 11 that morning.  So I skipped the gym and spent all morning moving furniture around.  The next morning, I went downstairs to see if the carpets had dried and I could still smell the poop.......soooo gross and frustrating.  Jim and I knew we had to rip up the carpets and do a major deoderizing, sanitizing job.

Jim's parents happened to call and he told them what was going on. They showed up a little while later and offered to take the kids sledding. So, while Jim and his dad went to Home Depot to get some carpet laying stuff, Marianna and I took the kids down the gully in our neighborhood.

Crew was so scared at first.  I had to force him to go down with me.  After a while, we couldn't get him to stop!  I love that his eyes are closed almost every time he goes down!

Nanny is really hands-on, she gets right in there with them.

Hailey is so good with Crew, always helping him.

It wouldn't be like Paige not to shed a few tears.

And by the way, the smell is gone, thank goodness.  Anyone want a dog?
